Earthquake Assistance:
Partners in Relief, Recovery, and Development
Just hours after Northern Pakistan was devastated by the strongest
earthquake in over a century, Dosti teams began delivering
truckloads of aid to the stricken communities. With the support
of U.S. partners, Dosti distributed the following supplies
to the areas of Mansehra, Balakot, Shankiari, Jabbori and Sachan Nawazabad
in the days following the October 9, 2005 disaster:
- 2000 kg of grain, lentils, and milk
- 500 blankets
- 500 mattresses
- 800 warm jackets
- 600 tents
- 300 gas heaters and stoves
- 200 kg of medicines to hospitals in Mansehra and Abbottabad
- Supplies for a temporary medical camp in Balakot
- 200 crutches
- Warm clothing, food, and milk for 200 children in Balakot
Dosti opened its field office in Balakot on October 12th, providing direct assistance to survivors, collecting information, and coordinating services for a variety of international agencies. By January 2006, Dosti U.S. had collected more than $80,000 in donations, enabling Dosti Pakistan to focus relief efforts on four key categories:
